Job description: The Role Responsibilities
Role Summary
What makes a successful Corporate Banker (GAM)? As the trusted advisor to the clients, the Corporate Global Account Manager (GAM) brings to the table deep industry knowledge and strong client relationships to understand and uncover specific clients’ financing needs and advise on personalised and customised solutions. Through strong collaboration with the Field Account Manager (FAM) / Regional Account Manager (RAM) and other internal stakeholders (e.g. Product), the GAM takes the lead in problem solving, spotting new opportunities to drive sustainable outcomes for both clients and the Bank. The GAM is accountable delivering overall Group client revenues, profitability and risk acceptance (AML, CDD and Credit). A successful GAM has strong business acumen and is adept at negotiating / communicating / influencing stakeholders in decision making by leveraging on deep industry expertise to provide sound advice. A successful GAM is also able to work well under stress and ambiguity.
Strategy

  • Define and agree the Global relationship strategy for the client and drive the global execution
  • Develop Account Plan to upgrade and expand relationships with key accounts, ideating on priorities and opportunities, and engaging on strategic themes
  • Steer global client relationships through rigorous account planning (e.g. translating clients’ wants and needs into business opportunities)
  • Direct the coverage team of RMs, industry and product specialists on the development and implementation of the client strategy for the designated portfolio (e.g. ensuring a “one-Bank” experience for clients)
  • Identify client needs across SCB’s product capabilities, originate new business and grow the franchise by capitalising on the Bank’s competitive attributes
  • Conduct systematic client relationship reviews for top tier clients, together with the relevant CCIB Business Development partners (e.g. partner teams such as Client Proposition & Experience, Client & Frontline Content) and clients’ senior management / key decision makers
  • Enable delivery of RM roles in-country (i.e. RAM / FAM) while ensuring alignment to global account strategy and plans
  • Accountable for client team coordination across the network; enable robust handover of account to RAM / FAM

Business

  • Lead the origination and client relationship management for a portfolio of International Corporate / Local Corporate / Middle Market Clients
  • Act as a focal point of contact to client’s decision makers (e.g., Regional Treasury Centres), originating sales through leading deal discussions / managing Request for Proposals, and coordinating global and multi-product activities
  • Anticipate clients’ needs and provide strategic advice, bringing in the relevant product and industry partners as appropriate
  • Deliver financial performance objectives (i.e. Revenues, RoRWA, etc.)
  • Leverage and continually develop industry and product knowledge (e.g., sustainable finance), explaining relevant implications of the changing economic landscape to clients and helping them identify where business growth lies

Processes

  • Ensure that all administrational works associated with the portfolio is done accurately in accordance with laid down procedures and on a timely basis, including but not limited to, know-your-customer procedures, documentation, reporting, etc.

People & Talent

  • Coach relationship managers and client managers in the team. Provide guidance on junior team members. To execute the bank’s business strategy, ensure the team following the compliance and risk control guideline. Encourage team work and effective team culture as a leader.

Risk Management & Governance

  • Ensure credit, operational, legal, regulatory, reputation, compliance are held to the highest standards of risk management and aligned with the Bank’s risk appetite (at a product and enterprise level as relevant)
  • Serves as escalation point for risks relevant to client / portfolio (e.g. risks identified through analysis of transactional data, external factors and other drivers) and decide on key actions / mitigations to take to address risk
  • Lead periodic and trigger reviews for relevant clients / portfolio on risks that impact them (i.e. risks found in client due diligence (CDD) such as credit, FCC compliance, financial crimes, fraud, sustainability risk)
  • Keep abreast with changing regulatory requirements and provide advisory support to client

Key stakeholders
Internal

  • Product Partners – To promote ONE BANK approach by actively working with our product partners, GAMs and FAMs.
  • Team Head – Business development, team management, overall relationship management and budgetary planning.
  • Other Relationship support colleagues – To coach and provide guidance in order to enhance performance and work co-ordination and delegation of assignments.

External

  • Existing Clients – To manage relationships, develop business, evaluate credits, negotiate facility terms and pricing, resolve operational problems and secure market information.
  • Prospective Clients – To market full range of Bank’s products and services. Explore new market opportunity and identify potential prospects.
