Job description: – To maintain and enhance professional development and academic quality in the Teaching Center, through the management of in-house teacher development programme and support
– To promote and ensure quality teaching and effective learning of English
– To provide learners with a rewarding and stimulating English language learning experience
– To support the wider aims of British Council and its cultural relations mission

Main Accountabilities:
– To plan, prepare and deliver effective English language teaching that meets the needs of different learner groups
– To monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage learners performance throughout the course, and to actively promote learner autonomy
– To contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and related services, in order to best meet learners needs
– To complete teaching-related administrative tasks to specified standards
– To actively engage in professional development and performance management systems and procedures to assure high standards in teaching and learning
– To contribute positively to the British Councils reputation and position as a benchmark standard in best practice in the sector
– To support marketing and promotional activities and to assist the teaching team in delivering excellent customer service
– To ensure safeguarding standards are rigorously applied and upheld in line with applicable policy in the following areas:
o Child protection
o Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)
o Health and safety Health and safety

Additional Information:
– Contract Duration: 24 Months
– Contract Type Fixed term
– Renewable Period- Renewable
– Contract Teaching Hours- 50 or more / month
– Work schedule (as per operational needs): Teaching schedules typically involve both evening work and working on Saturdays and Sundays the times at which most teaching activity takes place. Teachers may be required to work in one or more centres in the city they are based in, but scheduling policy is to restrict teaching to one location only on any given day.
o Part-time teachers are required to make themselves available to teach at least the monthly number of hours specified in their contract according to the schedule given.
o Part-time teachers may be offered more hours of teaching than in their core contract. If they accept, they will be paid additionally for these hours.
Passport requirements/ Right to work in country: Applicants must be potentially eligible to work in Vietnam and must hold a passport which has at least two blank pages and at least 6 months remaining validity.

Qualifications

Essentials:
– Undergraduate degree (BA or equivalent / higher)
– Cambridge CELTA, Trinity Cert TESOL or equivalent
– CELT-YL extension/TYLEC or commit to complete these courses while in post.
– For Vietnamese nationals only: A BA or equivalent/ higher in ESL or related field

Desirables:
– CELT-YL extension/TYLEC
– PGCE in Primary/Secondary or equivalent
– Recognised diploma in EFL i.e., Cambridge DELTA/Trinity DipTESOL

Work Experience:
Essential:
– At least 1-year post-qualification experience (600 hours) covering at least two of the following age-groups
– Young learners aged 6 to 10
– Young learners aged 11 to 13
– Young learners aged 14 to 17

Language requirements:
Full proficiency in English across all 4 skills, equivalent to CEFR C2 / IELTS Band 8/9 in each of 4 sections of the academic module
IELTS certificate is mandatory requirement except following nationalities: British, American, Irish, Canadian, New Zealander, Australian

Salary and Benefits

Salary: VND 34,922,500 to VND 38,357,500 gross per month (Depending on qualification and experience)

Annual Leave: 12 working days per annum plus Vietnamese public holidays (currently 11 days per year)

Social security and sick leave: Sick leave is unpaid but Part-time employees are entitled to claim benefits under the Vietnamese state social security system, including claims relating to absence from work due to sick leave.

Reimbursable travel expenses – If you are recruited from outside Vietnam: Expenses incurred relating to travel to Vietnam, including airfare, baggage or temporary accommodation on arrival will be reimbursed against receipts up to a permissible allowance limit of USD1,500.

Job Summary

There is a high demand for English language learning in Vietnam due to the country’s economic growth, increasing internationalization, and government vision to improve English language proficiency. The British Council currently has 3 locations in HCMC and 4 in Hanoi, with plans to open 4 more centers in 2024.
Joining will be in May or August 2024.
Teaching focuses on young learners comprising over 70% of the activity. The British Council currently teaches around 4,500 YLs and 1,700 adults.
